Sunny skies, hot racing at the Foreshore Tri

28 Feb by Nicole Barnes

What a magnificent day at Foreshore on Sunday, didn’t the weather gods turn it on for us – in what were simply stunning conditions. We had a total of 193 participants take part across our events on Sunday, what a fantastic effort!

Kicking off the day with the Sprint and Short Course events in perfect conditions, calm ocean, little winds and early enough in the day that the heat of the sun hadnt kicked in yet. It was great to see so many people ticking of their own personal goals, whether that was to beat a rival, knock up a personal best – or to take part in their first triathlon! How great is it that we all come together and celebrate everyone’s success. Thank you to Jo McDowell for coordinating the crew from the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club for us – ensuring our participants felt safe and supported in the water. Congratulations to Brooke, Jen and Gab our placegetters in the ladies category, and to Jarrod, Ruben and Dallas in the men’s category. And who doesn’t love to watch the battle in the teams division each year! Well done to all 21 starters in our short course non-competitive event this year …. This event certainly goes from strength to strength each year!
Thank you to Splash Shop, By liv., Quick Spin Laundry, Cheeseworld and the Pavilion Cafe & Bar for the generous donation of spot prizes, we sure had some happy winners!

Next up saw the annual Are-able All Abilities triathlon, which this year had 16 participants take part – which was a new record! It was fantastic to watch everyone enjoying the water, bike and trike riding and a walk or run on our promenade -before crossing the line to the applause of the crowd, to receive their prized towel! Well done everyone 🙌🏼

To round out the day, 74 kids kept us all on our toes this year – the first time we have had to run waves in our U7s tri taster! Lots of returning juniors, and lots of new little faces. Lots of learning, cheering each other on and fun! Congratulations to Asha Graham who was the lucky winner of the Junior Wetsuit Spot Prizes generously donated by Jayson Lambs Splash Factory.

Big thank you to our Volunteers who make these events possible (but more on them later in the week), to our event sponsors Ultimate Performance & Rehab – Exercise Physiology and Pilates, are-able, Beyond Bank and the Warrnambool City Council. We also say a big thank-you to Jon and Mary-Ellen at the Pavilion for their support of our event, we certainly took over the Foreshore this year – so we thank everyone who in return supported the Pavilion on Sunday, what perfect weather it turned out to be for an 🍦post event!
