Another super Foreshore Tri!

11 Feb 2023 by Nicole Barnes

The Saputo Foreshore Tri was run and won yesterday with all 124 participants who took part the real winners! It was fantastic to see the reach of our event, with 60% of participants residing outside the 3280 postcode. We had participants from Geelong and along the Surf Coast, Beulah, the Ballarat area and across into South Australia to name a few! A great result for our event and for tourism in Warrnambool.

Kicking off bright and early in the morning at the Foreshore, the starters gun went off at 7:30 for the Sprint distance tri which comprised a 500m swim, 20km ride and 5km run. We had 67 participants participate in this event followed by 18 in the Short Course event which kick off shortly after and comprised a 250m swim, 5km ride and a 1.5km run.

The swim once out over the breaker at worm bay, was calm with good conditions for participants. Big thank you to John and Justin from the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club in the IRB for supporting our swimmers in the water. The ride course a technical 5km loop comprising Viaduct Rd, Stanley St, Pickering and Thunder Pts and MacDonald St. The positions in the pack changing several times during the ride leg, however our early leaders Adam Conquest and Gab Lanman cemented their leads. Thanks to Toot Traffic for helping to keep our riders safe โœŒ๐Ÿผ Off the bikes and onto the run, it was great to watch on as participants chased down their peers taking in a picturesque course along the promenade.

The short course participants were first across the line and you couldnโ€™t wipe the smiles off their faces. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this non competitive offering ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Its fantastic to see the popularity in our short course events grow, with a mix of genders, ages and tri experience!

Our Sprint Distance a tustle to the end in all categories! In the ladies Gan Lanman was across the line in first place to take her first Foreshore Tri win after many attempts, holding off Jenny Dowie in 2nd place and across the line in 3rd place was Brooke Gordon who joined us from Cavendish.

In the menโ€™s sprint division Adam Conquest (Torquay) held out a fast finishing Jarrod Johnson and across the line in third place was Nathan Monk (Geelong). All 3 competing in their first Foreshore Tri โ€“ great to have you involved fellas.

In the teams โ€“ Heavy Hitters took home the bragging rights against Heavy Hitters A ๐Ÿ˜‚

Following on from the Open events we had out WDEA Works All Abilities Tri. 12 participants completed a swim, ride and run element cheered on by volunteers, careers, parents and friends! It was smiles for miles out on course and wonderful to watch! Thank you to South West Sport and GenU for supporting us to run this event.

Last up on the schedule the kids hit the course. We had 27 kids get involved across our 7-9, 10-12 and U7s events. Lots of fun and the ever popular reward of a FM milk with thanks to Saputo as they crossed the line!

A ripper day of events today โ€“ and we thank all participants, spectators and families for getting into the spirit of the day, supporting each other and having fun. This day of racing, is a massive undertaking for our committee, and we thank them all for their endless hours of work behind the scenes. In addition we thank ALL our volunteers โ€“ but more about these legends later in the week ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
