Mini Series - Proves a big hit!

26 Jan 2020 by Ian Barnes

And that’s a wrap of our inaugural blue hole mini series – with the completion of Race 3 tonight.

Tonight we had 52 participants take part – which takes participation over the 3 weeks to 145 😱 – amazing effort to everyone who came and had a go, especially in tonight’s wild and dreary conditions – you should all give yourselves a pat on the back 👏👏👏!

Tonight saw Naticia Varley across the line first in the ladies and Darren Pearce the first male across the line. We had 11 teams take part tonight – with lots of family challenges going on, on course.

We also announced series winners tonight – which to be eligible you had to participate in all 3 weeks tri’s and the cumulative time was used to see who came out the quickest. Naticia Varley was announced the winner in the ladies with a win each of the 3 weeks, followed by Jenny Dowie and Liv Morgan. Darren Pearce was the winner of the men’s, followed by Jason Morgan and Gavan Cooper rounding out the placings. Look’s like the Morgan are the ones to watch out for going forward 👀 We had 18 people complete the entire 3 race series which was fabulous to see. We are also pretty excited about the fact we had a 50:50 mix of men and ladies participating across the series – how good is it to see the girls getting out there and having a go – our girls ‘sure can’!

One of the best things we have seen with this series is the mix of people having a go – from some of our serious triathletes to people who have never participated before, adults and juniors, families and a few coming out of triathlon hiatus. What a fantastic atmosphere we had each week, so much encouragement on course for each other – so thanks to everyone for creating both a fun and serious environment for those chasing that side of racing. Really was a welcoming environment for everyone.

We want to say a big THANK-YOU to our volunteers from tonight, but also to all those who helped out across the series. There is many jobs to on race day – setup, water safety, course marshals, registrations and timing, packup and running the BBQ to name a few – a real team effort, thanks to everyone who helped out in some way. A very successful new event to our calendar and thanks to Ian Barnes for his hard work being Race Director 3 weeks in a row!

We need to acknowledge the support of Wannon Water through their Ripple Effect Grants – that has gone towards helping us keep the cost of these events low, encouraging everyone to participate and helping to reduce economic barriers to participation in physical activity in our community. It’s fantastic to see Wannon Water giving back to our community in this way – and we hope to work with them again in the future.

We also thank our other club sponsors Saputo, Optus, Central Storage, Ultimate Performance & Rehab, Cally Hotel, Taits Legal, WCC and This Girl Can VIC who help us to do what we do and run a supportive and fun club that encourages all ages abilities to participate. And we thank Bakers Delight Warrnambool CBD for their continued support of our BBQ fundraisers. We ask all our members and participants that where possible – please support those who support us, and don’t forget to tell them we sent you!

Our training sessions will continue on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sunday mornings – and we hope to see you at our major event for the year – the Foreshore Triathlon on the 9th February at the Warrnambool breakwater. Sign up, bring a friend to have a go – and join in the fun!

With this being a new event series to our calendar this year – we would love to get your feedback – good or bad, so please get in touch with us
