Kate Haberfield Awarded Volunteer of the Year

21 May 2019 by Ian Barnes

Our annual Volunteer of the Year award recognises outstanding services to the Club throughout the year, and Kate Haberfield is a most worthy recipient of this award this year. Kate is a passionate supporter of the Club, especially to helping and supporting new participants to the sport.

Kate noticed that there wasn’t many new female participants coming along to our events and decided to try something new to change this. And so the Couch to Coast program was initiated. It’s aims were to encourage everyone, especially women and girls to get active and give triathlon a go in a fun and supportive environment. The Couch to Coast was a huge success with over 30 women, majority of which were new to the club, participating in Women’s only non competitive triathlon and an additional 40 others including kids participating in the Splash, Dash and Dawdle and kids events.

Kate continued to support these new members through come and tri training days and a number of practices swim sessions which grew in numbers each time. Kate’s passion to support and grow the confidence of these new members was incredible to see and she made a huge impact on everyone involved in the program.

Kate has also spent countless hours volunteering at our other events, and been a key member on our committee. Congrats and thank you for all you do Kate!!!
